SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. (AP) — One of two men burned in an explosion during a Sedro-Woolley stunt that went wrong has died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports that Tyson Perez, described as an Australian in his 30s, died Wednesday. He was a sprint car crew chief well-known to Skagit Speedway fans.

Perez was burned while trying to “barrel ride” in a parking lot Sunday night by putting four gallons of fuel in a 55-gallon barrel and lighting it on fire. Fire officials say the barrel was apparently supposed to slide across the lot like a rocket, but it blew up.

The newspaper says 33-year-old Travis Rilat remains in Harborview’s intensive care unit.
