LONDON (AP) — London organizers say the Olympic flame will arrive in Britain on May 18, 2012, and travel around the country for 70 days ahead of the 2012 Games.

London officials say the flame will be carried by 8,000 torch bearers, with more than half of the relay spots going to young people.

After the nationwide relay, the flame will arrive in London the weekend before the games begin on July 27, 2012.

Sports and Olympic Minister Hugh Robertson says the torch relay “will bring the spirit of London 2012 to every corner of the country.”

Details of the relay route will be announced next year.
