Foster, Trasolini lead Santa Clara to 82-77 win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Kevin Foster scored 19 points in his first game in nearly a year in helping Santa Clara beat Cal State Bakersfield 82-77 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Marc Trasolini had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Broncos won their fourth straight opener. Evan Roquemore added 14 points.

Donavan Bragg scored 21 points to lead the Roadrunners, who lost their fifth straight dating to last year. Stephon Carter had 13 points and Alex Johnson, 12.

Trasolini hit a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Broncos ahead at 65-64 with 6:50 remaining to play.

Santa Clara stretched its lead to 77-70 with two minutes left when Ben Dowdell, who added 13 points, slammed one home.

Roquemore sank a pair of free throws with 2:46 left in the first half to break a tie and help give the Broncos a 40-36 advantage at the intermission.
