Girls basketball: Emma Smith, Claire Smith lead Prairie to second win at San Diego tournament

Mountain View, R.A. Long, Seton Catholic and Fort Vancouver also get wins

Emma Smith had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Claire Smith add 10 points and six rebounds as the Prairie girls basketball team improved to 2-1 at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego with a 43-39 win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Montebello, Calif., on Friday.

The Falcons will conclude play in the tournament against St. Monica Prep of Santa Monica, Calif., at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Coach Mike Smith credited Harmony Fallin with a great game defensively for the Falcons, recording eight steals, two blocks and several deflections. Fallin also added seven points and six assists.

“It was a great team effort,” Mike Smith said. “We played great defense in the third quarter to get the team heading in the right direction to victory.”

ARCHBISHOP MITTY 77, CAMAS 45 — The Papermakers hung with a power from San Jose, Calif., until being outscored 23-2 in the fourth quarter.

Archbishop Mitty forced 28 turnovers from Camas and outrebounded the Papermakers 35-23. Mitty had 18 offensive rebounds, resulting 20 second-chance points.

Addison Harris had 11 points for Camas, and Riley Sanz added 10.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 76, STEILACOOM 43 — Layla Senderson scored 19 points to lead three players in double figures for the Thunder.

Jadlyn Senderson added 17 points, and Nina Peterson hit five 3-pointers to score 15.

R.A. LONG 46, SHELTON 32 — Breyelle Box had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals as R.A. Long capped the Vince Dulcich Tournament in Astoria, Ore., with a win.

R.A. Long outscored the Highclimbers 17-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Bri Garwood added 13 points, four assists and three blocks, while Evelyn Ofstun added nine points, five steals and five blocks.

FORT VANCOUVER 42, ASHLAND (Ore.) 36 — April Cruz scored 13 points to lead the Trappers, who capped the Myron Lawrence Memorial Tournament with their second win of the season.

SETON CATHOLIC 47, ILWACO 38 — Maddison Lee scored 11 of her 14 points during the second and third quarters to send Seton to win at the Ilwaco Holiday Classic.

Seton outscored Ilwaco 27-11 in the second and third quarters to open at 35-21 lead.

Riley Seymer led the Cougars with 17 points. Seton Catholic will face Willapa Valley on Saturday.

WILSONVILLE (Ore.) 59, SKYVIEW 47 — Jaeley Dean scored 16 point to lead the Storm at the Portland Holiday Classic at Grant High School.
