A man who was injured on April 18 after running into traffic in the Salmon Creek area and being hit by a car has been upgraded from critical to serious condition at Southwest Washington Medical Center.

However, Keenan Moss, 42, of Vancouver remains in intensive care, a nursing supervisor said Wednesday night.

Moss reportedly ran into traffic at Northeast 143rd Street and 20th Avenue and was hit by a southbound car about 9 p.m., Dawn Johnson, spokeswoman for Clark County Fire District 6, said in a bulletin. The driver of the vehicle that hit him stopped. Moss suffered a serious head injury, Johnson said.

The case is being investigated by the Traffic Unit of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before running into traffic and being hit, Moss had been discharged from Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, Johnson said.

He’d been taken to that hospital a few hours earlier, about 6 p.m. Monday, after witnesses called 911 and said he ran into traffic at East 40th and Main streets, swinging his fists and yelling, the bulletin said.

The 6 p.m. incident was within the geographic jurisdiction of the Vancouver Police Department. Johnson said she was told Vancouver police, after the 6 p.m. incident, put a hold on the man because he was believed to be a danger to himself.
