Just one close game highlighted the first day of the Pacific Northwest Regional Babe Ruth 15-year-old baseball tournament at Propstra Stadium.

Host Hazel Dell Metro had Monday off, and plays its first pool-play game at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Calgary.

Calgary suffered a 10-run defeat to South Coast of Coos Bay, Ore., 11-1.

Ellensburg opened Monday’s play with a 25-5 win over Green River, Wyo., in five innings.

That was followed by the day’s closest game as Midland of Puyallup edged North Bitteroot Valley, Mont. 6-5.

Lewiston, Idaho, capped the day with an 11-3 win over The Dalles.

Action resumes with four games Tuesday: Midland vs. South Coast at 10 a.m.; Green River vs. Lewiston at 1 p.m.; Metro vs. Calgary at 4 p.m.; and Centralia plays its opener against The Dalles at 7 p.m.

The top two teams from each of the two pools meet in the semifinals on Saturday, with those winners meeting for the championship at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The champion here advances to the Babe Ruth World Series for 15-year-olds later this month in Jamestown, N.Y.

Admission is $5 per game or $40 for a tournament pass.

Babe Ruth 13s — The Hazel Dell Metro teams opens pool play at the regional tournament in Kennewick at 7 p.m. Tuesday against British Columbia.

Little League senior softball — Battle Ground fell to 2-3 at the regional tournament in Missoula, Mont., knocking them out of contention for the tournament title.

Battle Ground, the Washington state champion, split a pair of games Sunday. They defeated Yuba City, Calif., 9-8, but then lost to Tucson, Ariz., 12-10. Details from the games were not reported.

UPDATE: Battle Ground finished pool play on Monday with a 12-4 loss to Butte, Mont. Game details were not reported. Butte and Barstow, Calif., both 5-1, advance to a best-of-three final series for a berth to the Senior Softball World Series.
