Portland Babe Ruth beats Lookouts Sandlot of Centerfield Babe Ruth 8-7 in championship game

Portland Babe Ruth rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Lookouts Sandlot of Centerfield Babe Ruth of Southwest Washington 8-7 on Thursday in the championship game of the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth 13-15 Regional tournament at Heritage High School.

With the win, Portland Babe Ruth advances to the 15U Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, N.Y.

The loss ended an excited week for Lookouts Sandlot, which draw players from Clark County, Woodland and Kalama.

Lookouts went 3-0 in pool play, winning by an average score of 14-2.

Lookouts took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning against Wenatchee Valley in the semifinals earlier Thursday, but Wenatchee scored to tie the game.

Then Bryce Simmons singled home the winning run with two outs to send Lookouts to the title game.

In the championship game, Lookouts found themselves down 4-1 after Portland had a four-run fourth inning.

But Lookouts responded with a six-run fifth inning. Simmons, Jayden Sivits, Dylan Knox and Massie delivered key hits in the rally.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth, Portland tallied three runs in the sixth with Paul Oellrich’s two-run triple putting Portland ahead.

In the top of the seven, Lookouts got a runner to second before Portland recorded the final out.
