I received an eight-page tabloid size newsletter mailed to me by Evergreen Public Schools recently, called “Your Evergreen Schools.” I have no children, so I presume that it also went out to thousands of other households in the school district, addressed simply to “Residential Patron,” just like mine.
Seven pages contained “feel good” stories, but the front-page story talked about budget cuts of $16 million over the past three years and the proposal of an additional $9.5 million in reductions for the 2011-2012 school year.
On page 7, I learned that this newsletter is published four times each year.
I would like to ask the Evergreen district, in light of their economic difficulties, why would they not consider spending the money they used to produce and mail this publication on their students and teachers?
