Clark Public Utilities is working to restore power after an outage left more than 1,700 people in the dark early Wednesday evening. The outage was reported just after 5:30 p.m. in the Salmon Creek area of Vancouver.

Utility spokeswoman Erica Erland said the problem was possibly caused by a downed power line or a tree on a wire, but that hadn’t been confirmed. A strong storm system brought rain and wind to Vancouver for much of the day.

A total of 1,745 customers were affected by the outage, Erland said. She didn’t immediately know how long those people might be without electricity — crews were on their way to the area of Northeast 129th Street and 12th Avenue to check out the problem, Erland said.

UPDATE: Clark Public Utilities reported that power had been restored to the area just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The utility confirmed that the outage was caused by a tree limb on a power line.
