Jacksonville State beats Tenn. State 76-73 in OT

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Nick Murphy had four steals for Jacksonville State, which turned three Tennessee State turnovers into five straight points in overtime for a 76-73 win on Monday night.

With the score tied at 64 and 1:51 to play, Murphy had his final steal and converted it into a jump shot to spark a 5-0 run for the Gamecocks (5-20, 3-11 Ohio Valley Conference).

The Tigers (11-13, 8-6), who finished with 16 turnovers, committed two during the spurt, which was capped by Jeremy Bynum’s free throw with 39 seconds to go. Jacksonville State then went 6 of 6 from the free-throw line to seal its first win in three games.

Bynum finished with 13 points and Murphy 11 for the Gamecocks, who scored 18 points off turnovers.

Jacksonville State’s Brian Williams made a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left in regulation to send it into overtime tied 60-60.

Kenny Moore’s 18 points led the Tigers.
