Florida Gulf Coast defeats SC-Upstate 81-65

SPARTANBURN, S.C. (AP) — Sherwood Brown scored 26 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast over South Carolina-Upstate 81-65 on Monday night in a game postponed from Jan. 10 due to snow and ice.

It was the final game of the season for both teams, who are in their final transitional year to Division I.

The Eagles (10-20, 7-13 Atlantic Sun Conference) led 36-33 at halftime before opening the second half with 13 straight points. Brown, who had eight points during the run, capped it on a layup with 13:51 to play. The Spartans (5-25, 4-16) would get no closer than six points the rest of the way.

Anthony Banks added 17 points and Christophe Varidel 16 for Florida Gulf Coast, which shot 49 percent for the game (24 of 49).

Torrey Craig led the Spartans with 14 points and Tony Dukes added 12. It was the seventh loss in the last eight games for USC Upstate.
