Archbishop Carroll of Radnor, Pa., hit three free throws with no time left to force overtime and beat the Camas girls basketball team 59-52 at the She Got Game Classic on Saturday in Springfield, Va.

Camas, playing their third game during a three-day trip to the Washington D.C.-area, led from start to finish in regulation until Archbishop Carroll was fouled on a 3-point attempt at the buzzer. The Patriots then made all three free throws to force overtime.

The Papermakers ran out of gas in the extra period as Archbishop Murphy outscored Camas 7-0.

“Tough game to lose, but the girls battled today,” Camas coach Scott Thompson said. “Offensively we moved the ball as good as we have all year, and defensively we competed all morning.”

Camas jumped out to a 20-7 lead after one quarter, and led 24-11 after a defensive second quarter.

The Patriots, the defending 6A Pennsylvania state champions, rallied in the second half, scoring 41 points. They benefitted from 22 fouls called on the Papermakers. The Patriots made 24 for 29 free throws. By contract, Camas made 4 of 6 free throws.

Addison Harris led Camas (3-2) with 20 points and seven rebounds. Keirra Thompson had 11 points, seven assists and four rebounds, and Sophie Buzzard had 11 points. Riley Sanz had six assists and six rebounds before fouling out.

“We’ve had an amazing experience on the East Coast,” Thompson said. “The teams we matched up against were all very impressive, and we definitely showed that we belong.”

Camas will play its first game in Clark County on Thursday at Skyview, before its home opener Friday against Eastlake in a rematch of last season’s 4A state championship game.
