FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Shane Gibson scored 21 points as Sacred Heart hung on to defeat Holy Cross 77-75 on Sunday for coach Dave Bike’s 500th career victory.

Bike, whose teams have 451 losses, is 20th among active coaches in victories. His 33 seasons at Sacred Heart mark the longest tenure at one school for any active coach besides Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim.

The Pioneers (5-8) led 72-65 with 1:41 remaining, but Andrew Beinart’s 3-pointer and a three-point play, sandwiched around a Sacred Heart basket, brought the Crusaders (1-12) within 74-71 with 34 seconds left.

Gibson hit two free throws to make it 76-71, but two free throws by Beinart and a steal and layup by Devin Brown cut it to 76-75 with 16 seconds left.

After Louis Montes made 1 of 2 free throws for the Pioneers, Holy Cross failed to get off a last shot.

Jordan Stevens and Dave Dudzinski led the Crusaders with 15 points each.
