CANNON BEACH, Ore. (AP) — A Cannon Beach woman has developed a new trail on the Oregon coast — but this one runs through the city.

Barbara Linnett is a board member of the Warrenton Trails Association, and chairwoman of the Friends of the Trail group in Cannon Beach.

The Daily Astorian reports she helped develop a 25-mile loop to connect to Fort Stevens State Park and the Fort Clatsop to Sea trail before getting involved in a half-mile inner-city “lagoon trail” in downtown Cannon Beach.

Linnett had to overcome concerns about safety and parking, gather supporters and attend city meetings before organizing work parties to build the trail.

But the lagoon trail opened in November, and will be part of the “Landscape of the Whale” natural history park being developed for Cannon Beach.
