Business name: Anderson Glass.

Owner: Jackie and Bill Steiner.

Address: 2516 E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

What the business does: Anderson Glass’ retail side sells and installs windows, shower doors and mirrors. The commercial side of the business installs heavy glass for storefronts, office buildings and retail centers, Jackie Steiner said.

How has the economy affected your business: The housing market collapse has hurt both the residential and commercial sides of the business, Steiner said. She said developers are not building until they see a better vacancy rate and residential homeowners are not investing in their own houses as much because everyone has been a bit more frugal with their money. Anderson Glass is currently bidding commercial jobs throughout the state of Washington and is doing several jobs in Seattle.

Greatest challenge: Keeping employees working when demand is low. Though work comes in sporadically, Steiner tries to schedule work so that every employee gets the maximum amount of hours.

What’s ahead: With the economy slowly creeping back, Steiner expects that she will see an increase in residential business. She is also bringing in different and more varied lines of windows to give customers broader choices in multiple price ranges. The company also plans on introducing a rebate for installing energy-efficient windows.
