Long Beach State holds off UC Davis 60-56

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Eugene Phelps snagged a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 15 rebounds, as Long Beach State held off UC Davis 60-56 on Wednesday night.

The 49ers (10-8, 5-0 Big West) took their largest lead of the game, 50-35, midway through the second half after scoring 14 unanswered points.

But the Aggies (6-11, 1-5) rallied in the final eight minutes, outscoring Long Beach State 21-10 and pulling within two points on a 3-pointer by Ryan Sypkens with 25 seconds to go. But it was a close as UC Davis got.

Joe Harden led the Aggies with a game-high 20 points while Sypkens scored 16 and Eddie Miller 10.

Larry Anderson and Casper Ware each scored 12 points for the 49ers and Greg Plater added 11.
