Girls Basketball Roundup: Hudson’s Bay holds off Woodland despite Kennedy Bockert’s big game

Alana Stephens scored 18 points as Hudson’s Bay girls basketball beat Woodland 51-45 on Wednesday to solidify its position in the district playoffs.

The home win means the Eagles can clinch the 2A Greater St. Helens League’s No. 3 seed with a win over Fort Vancouver in the regular-season finale Friday.

Miranda Gonzalez added 17 points and made all three of Bay’s 3-pointers.

Hudson’s Bay (13-5, 10-5 2A GSHL) held on despite a big game from Woodland’s Kennedy Bockert. The freshman finished with 26 points and 17 rebounds.

Woodland (10-10, 8-7) holds a half-game lead over Washougal for fifth place and a berth in the district tournament play-in game.

R.A. LONG 42, FORT VANCOUVER 41 — Brianna Garwood put in the go-ahead free throw as the Lumberjills pulled out a squeaker at Fort in 2A Greater St. Helens League action. The game was tied at halftime, 18-18, and Fort took a 28-26 lead into the final quarter.

Garwood led all scorers with 17 points with nine of the point coming in the decisive fourth quarter. Alauna Brown added 12 points.

April Cruz scored 13 points for the Trappers with Trian Clark scoring 12 and Georgiana Kalamafon 10.

SETON CATHOLIC 41, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 16 — The Cougars remained undeafeated in the 1A Trico League with their strongest defensive showing of the season.

Leading 18-10 at halftime, Seton Catholic (14-4, 8-0) allowed no points in the third quarter.

Tiffany Sheldon scored 10 points and Riley Seymer added 10 points for the Cougars.

King’s Way fell to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in Trico play.

LA CENTER 36, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 30 — The Wildcats used a balanced offense to hold off visiting Columbia in the 1A Trico League matchup.

No La Center (9-10, 4-5)player reached double figures in scoring, but the scoring was spread around led by Adyson Maddock with eight points and McKenzie Schockelt with seven.

The Bruins (3-14, 1-7), led by Sara Miller’s 10 points, played their second of four games this week due to weather makeups.

CAMAS 61, CLACKAMAS (Ore.) 45 — Keirra Thompson scored 19 points as the Papermakers avenged a loss earlier this season to the Oregon power.

Clackamas, ranked No. 1 in their state’s 6A classification, won 73-53 when it hosted the Papermakers on Dec. 22. The Cavaliers (10-3) had only six players take the floor in Wednesday’s game at Camas.

The Papermakers outscored Clackamas 24-12 in the second quarter to lead 34-25 at halftime.

Addison Harris added 14 points for Camas (13-6), which can clich the 4A Greater St. Helens League title if it beats Union on Friday.
