Letter: The good ol’ days: Brian Baird

The Columbian
Published: July 1, 2011, 12:00am

In his June 26 letter, “Raise our voices to regain control,” Peter Gilmour describes Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, as a “voice of reason.”

Until Herrera Beutler decides to come to the center of the table and realize that in order to really make a dent in this deficit all of us are going to have to make sacrifices, by closing corporate tax loopholes and raising the taxes on the very rich, as well as cutting back on some of the entitlements and government guarantees espoused by the Democrats — then she will be nothing more that a rubber stamp for the Republican Party. How many Republicans have balanced the budget in the past 50 years?

As an independent voter, I really miss Brian Baird.
