MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — It took about 50 Crater Lake National Park rangers and others about six hours to complete a complex rescue of a man who fell about 300 feet from the rim of the mountain into the caldera.
The park says the 27-year-old man from New York was with friends Monday when he went beyond a barrier onto a snow bank at an outlook. Witnesses say he slid headfirst down a snow chute.
KFLS reports snow and rockfalls complicated the rescue in the steep terrain.
The man was airlifted to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford with serious injuries.
