“Who Let the Dogs Out?”
Teachers and staff at Hathaway Elementary.
The Washougal grade school, home of the Hound Dogs, celebrates the final school day each year with a rousing version of the catchy song.
Tuesday brought the closing “bell” in Washougal and a handful of Battle Ground public schools.
In both cases, winter snow-ice closures tacked make-up days to the school calendar. Elsewhere in Clark County, students were set loose starting one week ago (Hockinson).
The true ending comes today.
Last to exit: Pupils in neighboring Camas (save for make-ups, they would have departed Thursday) and in the Vancouver district, sticking to its original schedule that began last Sept. 8, later than most districts.
New arrivals to the summer break should enjoy seasonal sunshine today, before forecast clouds return once again.
Here’s hoping schoolchildren will squeeze maximum fun and adventure from the time off.
School’s back on Aug. 30 in Washougal; Aug. 31 in Evergreen and many other districts.
