Household hazardous waste collection events set

Clark County residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste, block foam and unwanted electronics by dropping them off at a series of satellite collection events beginning in April.

Events include the following:

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2, Ridgefield High School, 2630 S. Hillhurst Road.

• 9 to 11 a.m. April 16, Amboy Middle School, 22115 N.E. Chelatchie Road.

• 2 to 4 p.m. April 16, Yacolt Primary School, 406 W. Yacolt Road.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23, Clark College, 1900 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7, Clark County Fire & Rescue, Station 23, 414 E. Cedar Ave., La Center.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 14, Washougal Department of Public Works Shop, 2201 C St.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21, East County Fire & Rescue Station 91 (Fern Prairie), 600 N.E. 267th Ave.

• 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11, Camas Operations Center, 1620 S.E. Eighth Ave.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18, Clark County Fire & Rescue Station 26 (Dollars Corner), 21609 N.E. 72nd Ave.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 9, Clark County Fire & Rescue Station 27, 505 S.W. First St., Battle Ground.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16, Fire District 3, Station 31, 17718 N.E. 159th St., Brush Prairie.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 8, County Operations Center, 4700 N.E. 78th St.

Household hazardous waste includes pesticides, paints, solvents, batteries, thinners, motor oil, antifreeze and cleaners. Look for signal words, such as poison, danger, warning, caution or flammable. The events accept most household hazardous waste, but no commercial or industrial waste.

Explosives, ammunition, biological materials or business-generated hazardous waste will not be accepted.

Block foam must be clean and bagged and from households only. Plastic-wrapped yellow urethane foam, hot tub covers or packaging peanuts won’t be accepted.

Accepted electronics include computers, monitors, televisions, printers, VCRs, typewriters and cell phones. Microwave ovens, smoke detectors and large appliances will not be accepted.

If you miss one of the mobile events:

Block foam and electronics can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at Empower Up, 5000 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., in Vancouver. Empower Up will accept block foam beginning on April 1.

Household hazardous waste can be taken at no charge to three permanent facilities:

• Central Transfer Station, 11034 N.E. 117th Ave., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

• West Van Materials Recovery Center, 6601 N.W. Old Lower River Road, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

• Washougal Transfer Station, 4020 S. Grant St., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month.
