Volunteer honored by medical center

Salmon Creek — Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center honored hundreds of volunteers at its sixth annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner, held recently at the hospital.

Geri Johnson, a volunteer in the Spiritual Care Department at Salmon Creek, received the Presidential Service Award for Lifetime Achievement, which honors a volunteer who has logged more than 4,000 hours.

Johnson has logged more than 4,500 hours in her five and a half years at the hospital; she started as a volunteer shortly before the doors opened in August 2005.

Presented by Chief Administrative Officer Jonathan Avery, the award includes a signed letter from President Obama.

“Geri offers daily office management support with a smile and humor appreciated by all,” said the Rev. Gwen Morgan, director of Spiritual Care at Legacy Salmon Creek. “She also designs personalized greeting cards, coordinates the set-up for Spiritual Care volunteer trainings and organizes donations of quilts, stuffed animals, prayer shawls, Bibles, rosaries, and spiritual and religious supplies.”

Nearly 60 volunteers also were recognized for hitting the five-year mark in their volunteer service, and nearly 50 volunteers were honored for logging 1,000 or more hours.
