The Camas baseball team tallied 12 runs in the second inning and beat Auburn Mountainview 12-0 in a Class 4A bi-district semifinal game Saturday in Auburn.

But the Papermakers didn’t even get a chance to bat in the championship game Saturday night against Enumclaw.

The first Enumclaw batter doubled, but the game was halted after two pitches to the next batter. The bi-district championship game was postponed until 4 p.m. Tuesday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

Camas coach Joe Hallead said he didn’t know if the game would be resumed from where it started on Saturday, or if the game would be replayed in its entirety.

Justin Webb went 2 for 2 with a double and four RBI and Maxx Gillhamer went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI in Camas’ win over Auburn Mountainview.

“It was a great effort,” Hallead said of the win over Auburn Mountainview. “We played almost the entire bench in the game. It was nice to jump out front and save (pitcher Zach Carter) for the championship game. Now, it doesn’t matter with the postponement to Tuesday, but it was a good idea.”

Carter started the Auburn Mountainview game and pitched two innings. Connor McClellan and David Patterson pitched the rest of the game.

The winner of Tuesday’s championship game will advance to the Centralia regional of the 3A state tournament for a 1 p.m. game against Glacier Peak. The loser will play a 10 a.m. game against Meadowdale in the Bellevue regional.

Mountain View 13, Kelso 3 — Mountain View kept alive its state tournament hopes with a big win over another 3A GSHL rival.

The win over the Hilanders in six innings advanced Mountain View to the 3A bi-district fifth-place game against Peninsula of Gig Harbor. The winner of that game will advance to the the Centralia regional of the 3A state tournament on Saturday. The loser is eliminated.

Mountain View eliminated Hudson’s Bay on Friday before knocking off the Hilanders on Saturday.

No other details of Saturday’s games were reported.

The Mountain View-Peninsula game was scheduled for Saturday night in Tacoma.

While there was no report made from the game, most Saturday evening baseball games in the Tacoma area were postponed because of rain.

Mark Morris 14, Hockinson 8, 10 innings — A couple of close calls went against Hockinson as the Monarchs broke through with six runs in the top of the 10th to advance in the 2A district tournament.

Hockinson’s season ended with the loss.

Hockinson coach Stephen Short said two close plays that didn’t go the Hawks’ way hurt Hockinson’s chances. The second was the most pivotal.

With a runner on second and one out in the bottom of the ninth, when the Hawks hit a groundball to shortstop.

With freshmen playing shortstop and first base for the Monarchs, Short saw an opportunity to challenge Mark Morris’ youthful infielders.

When the shortstop threw to first to complete the groundout, Short sent his runner home.

“Our kid made a phenomenal slide around the tag, then scampered back and touched the plate,” Short said. “But the umpire ruled him out on the swipe tag. It was a really close play, but I thought our kid was safe.

“It was huge play because instead of winning the game for us, it provided momentum for them, which they carried over into the top of the 10th.”

Doug MacDonald was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI, Keegan Burke was 2 for 4 and Jake Manson was 2 for 3 with run and an RBI for Hockinson.
