Talking Points: Team name

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

If our Vancouver happens to land the Yakima Bears baseball club of the Northwest League, that would make two Vancouvers in the NWL.

Just north of here, Vancouver, B.C., is home to the Vancouver Canadians (not Canadiens like the NHL team), which is the Class A short-season farm club of the Toronto Blue Jays.

We at Talking Points wouldn’t mind of the relocated team to our Vancouver — again, IF it even happens — why not take a different “city” name.

Fort Vancouver has a nice ring.

Speaking of relocated teams, you’ve probably heard by now that the team formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics have reached the NBA Western Conference finals.

The Oklahoma City Durants, er, Thunder, finished off the Memphis Grizzlies in game 7 on Sunday.

Seattle still hurts, three years after the Sonics left town.

Tweeted by Seattle Seahawks safety Jordan Babineaux on Sunday: “I would be courtside at Thunder Game 7 but they moved the (darn) team to Oklahoma.”

We feel ya.

Looks like Rafael Nadal’s clay-court kryptonite comes in the form of Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic has yet to lose this tennis season and has beaten Nadal in four finals including the last two on clay — which Nadal seemed to own until now.

With a week to go before the French Open, talk of a men’s favorite likely won’t include Nadal or Roger Federer for the first time in a long while.
