Wrestling: Columbia River boys beat Washougal for team title by half point

The Columbia River boys wrestling team earned the team title by the slimmest of margins, beating out Washougal for the title by a half point at the 2A GSHL sub-regional meet at Hockinson.

River only got titles from Tennyson Kurtz (157) and Lutalo Quinn (215), but still tallied 297.5 points to beat Washougal’s 297.

Brody Davis (113) and Isaac Gill (175) won titles for Washougal.

Ridgefield was third at 189.5, getting titles from Cesar Solorio (106), Lance Draper (132), Mason Townsend (138), and Landon Draper (150).

Other champions included Hockinson’s Liam McKee (126) and Jacob McKee (144), Mark Morris’ Charlie Jones (120) and Aimen Flemens (165), Talan Guerrero of Hudson’s Bay (190) and Nathan Nellis of Fort Vancouver (285).

Prairie got district titles from Christian Dealy, Mason Frei and Christopher Simpson as the Falcons took the team title at the 3A Greater St. Helens League district boys wrestling tournament on Saturday at Prairie.

PRAIRIE WINS 3A TITLE — Prairie scored 303 points to outdistance Mountain View (287) and Kelso (264) for the team title.

Dealy won the 165-pound bracket title, Frei took the crown at 175 pounds and Simpson won the 285-pound class.

Jeffrey Chilson (138), Kingston McPherson (150), Nathan Wadleigh (157), Rylan Reineback (190) and Ayden Denbo (215) took home titles for Mountain View.

Kelso dominated the lower classes, getting titles from Wesley Leeper (106), Preston Myren (113), Ryder Newton (120), Colton Rice (126) and Nathaniel Foulke (132).

Jaysaun Scott of Evergreen also won a title at 144.

CAMAS WINS 4A TITLE — Camas only won three district titles, but the Papermakers overall performance led them to take the team title at the 4A GSHL district tournament at Prairie.

Camas edged out Skyview 278.5-265.5 for the team title. Union was third at 228.5.

Jackson Lougen (190), Elliott Scott (215) and Luke Webb (285) won titles for Camas.

Skyview got wins from Jonas DesRochers (113), Mason DesRochers (120), Owen Pritchard (126), Kyler Nelson (132), Andrew Harrell (150) and JJ Schoenlein (175).

Union had champions in Desmond Villanueva (106), Noah Koyama (138), Isaias Rodriguez (144), Maddex Ramos (157) and Armando Nicasio (165).

CASTLE ROCK WINS AT 1A — Castle Rock crowned nine champions to run away with the team title at the 1A sub-regional meet at Castle Rock.

Skylar Ammons (106), Triston Olin (113), Cooper Williams (120), Landon Ramos (126), Landon Fulton (132), Nolen Nelson (138), Braden Swihart (157), Mason Darvell (175) and Aaron Smiley (285) won titles for the Rockets.

Other champions were Wyatt Ballard (144), Isaac Chromey (165) and Wyatt Eiesland (215) of La Center, Ashton Baker (150) of King’s Way Christian and Sawyer Muehlbauer (190) of Columbia-White Salmon.

RIVER SECOND AT 2A-1A GIRLS — Jada Winfield won a title at 190 pounds to lead Columbia River to second-place finish at the 2A-1A sub-regional meet at Hockinson.

Washougal got titles from Kiersten Lees (135) and Aliyha Vargas (140). 

Other local champions were Leah Wallway (100) of La Center, Ashley Totolhua (105) of Columbia-White Salmon, Couly McReyno,ds (115) of Woodland, Althea Walker (120) of R.A. Long, Teagan Trenda (125) of Hockinson and Reese Armstrong (130) of Kalama.
