Vancouver schools shuffle leadership

Retirements, other changes drive new assignments

Another late May, another round of falling dominoes, of sorts, for Vancouver Public Schools principals and other administrators.

A long list of changes for 2011-12 was approved by the Vancouver school board on Tuesday, and announced by the district.

Forthwith:

Marianne Thompson, principal at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, has been appointed chief of elementary education for the district. She replaces Glenys Paveglio, who is retiring. Tom Adams, associate principal at Columbia River High School, will take over as principal at Thomas Jefferson.

Curt Scheidel, principal at Lewis and Clark High School, has been named principal at Jason Lee Middle School. He will replace Susan Cone, who is leaving the district. Rob Duncan, Skyview High School associate principal, has been named principal at Lewis and Clark.

Kris Janati, principal of Sacajawea Elementary School, has been named principal of Felida Elementary School. She replaces Edna Nash, who is retiring. Tamara Grigg, curriculum resource coordinator, has been named principal at Sacajawea.

Karen Leary, principal at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School, will become principal of Marshall Elementary School. She replaces Julie Kassner, who is retiring. In turn, Harney Elementary Principal Karrie Yank will take over as principal at Roosevelt. Lucy Estrada, principal at Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School, will become principal at Harney. Debra Hale, principal at Martin Luther King Elementary School, will become principal at Anderson. Janelle Ephraim, Anderson associate principal, will be the new principal at King.

Mark Jordan, professional development manager, has been named associate principal at Chinook and Walnut Grove elementary schools. Travis Bond, associate principal at Chinook-Walnut Grove, will be associate principal at Anderson Elementary. Charlotte Pellens, formerly a half-time summer school principal, will become a half-time associate principal at Roosevelt.

At the high schools, Becky Phillips, associate principal of Columbia River, will become associate principal at Skyview. Rick Wilson, associate principal at Skyview, will move to Columbia River as associate principal. Esteban Delgadillo, associate principal at Hudson’s Bay, will take the role of associate principal at Columbia River. Val Seeley, associate principal at McLoughlin and Discovery middle schools, will become associate principal at Hudson’s Bay High School. Jason Hattrick, associate principal at Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, also will become associate principal at Hudson’s Bay.

Tish Lilly, resource coordinator and Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School associate principal, will become a VSAA associate principal.

Jeanne Shults, associate principal and athletic director at Hudson’s Bay High School, is retiring.

Jeff Snell, principal of Fort Vancouver High School, has been hired as Camas School District deputy superintendent.

The Fort Vancouver principal and Skyview associate principal positions have not yet been filled.
