BRANSON, Mo. (AP) — Singer Andy Williams says he is battling bladder cancer.
The Tri-Lakes News reports the 83-year-old Williams told the crowd at his Christmas show Saturday night at the Moon River Theatre in Branson, Mo. (http://bit.ly/uaedcs ). The silver-haired “Moon River” singer, who hosted a popular 1960s variety show, missed planned performances this fall with an undisclosed medical condition.
Williams received a standing ovation when he appeared and told the crowd that bladder cancer “is no longer a death sentence” and that he would survive. The paper also reported Williams has yet to start treatment.
Williams vowed to return to the stage next September and October to celebrate his 75th anniversary in show business.
The theater’s Facebook page says Williams’ appearance was a surprise and that he sang a song with the show’s performers.
