Ohio Dominican tops Southern Illinois 64-63

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Morgan Jones scored 15 points and Jake Mochoskay hit a pair of go-ahead free throws with 30 seconds remaining Saturday as Ohio Dominican defeated Southern Illinois 64-63 in the season opener for both schools.

Mochoskay put the Panthers ahead 63-61, and Don Kellum hit one of two free throws with 17 seconds left to extend the lead to three points. Justin Bocot’s basket with 1 second left after a missed 3-pointer accounted for Southern Illinois’ final points.

Ohio Dominican, a Division II school, shot 48 percent from the field. Kellum finished with 11 points, Mochoskay added eight points and seven rebounds, and Jones had five steals.

Mamadou Seck and Bocot led Southern Illinois with 18 points apiece. Seck also had 14 rebounds, while Bocot added four steals.

The two teams combined for 49 turnovers — 27 by the Panthers and 21 from the Salukis.
