Firefighters quickly knocked down a kitchen fire midday Tuesday in a home in the Rose Village neighborhood.

Crews were called to the house at 3712 N St. at 12:24 p.m. and Vancouver Fire Department Engine 3 arrived about 4 minutes later, said Capt. Chris Moen, a fire spokesman.

Firefighters arrived and found nothing visible from the outside of the home and light smoke inside, according to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

The cooking fire was contained to the kitchen but caused some smoke damage to the rest of the home, Moen said.

No one was home when firefighters arrived.

A resident returned home, found smoke and left to call 911, Moen said.

The fire caused $15,000 in damage.

County property records indicate the home is owned by the George S. Fullerton & Candace S. Spiro Trustees.
