INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Sanagas defeated Bourbon Bay by 3 1/4 lengths to win the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup in his Grade 1 debut at Hollywood Park on Saturday.

Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Sanagas ran 1 1/2 miles in 2:27.53 and paid $5.20, $3.20 and $2.60 as the 8-5 favorite. Bourbon Bay returned $3.20 and $2.80, while Falcon Rock was another length back in third and paid $4.60 to show.

It was the first stakes victory at the track for Maragh. Trainer Graham Motion, based in Maryland, earned his third major win in Southern California in 12 months, having won last year’s Matriarch at Hollywood Park and the Del Mar Oaks in August.

Sanagas has seven wins in 10 career starts and earnings of $282,282. It was his second win in a row and third in five U.S. starts after coming from Germany.
