San Diego holds off New Orleans 64-56

NEW ORLEANS, La. (AP) — Ken Rancifer and Chris Manresa each recorded double-doubles in San Diego’s 64-56 win over New Orleans on Friday.

Rancifer tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds and Manresa added 11 points and 10 boards as San Diego outrebounded New Orleans (3-3) 38-23 in their first game of the Hoops for Hope Classic.

The Toreros entered the second half tied 29-all but used a 27-20 run to take a 56-49 lead with 5:00 left to play in the second half. A Rancifer free throw and Manresa layup extended San Diego’s lead to 10 points, 59-49.

San Diego (2-1) shot a solid 46.8 percent (22 of 47) from the field compared to just 30.5 percent (18 of 59) for New Orleans.

Lovell Cook paced New Orleans, scoring 16 points. Albert Peterson recorded three steals as the Privateers forced San Diego to turn the ball over 24 times.
