Talking Points: Fine season from the Camas Papermakers

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Congratulations to the Camas football team on a great season.

Camas’ season ended at 11-2 after a 21-13 loss to O’Dea of Seattle.

The Papermakers went farther than any other Camas football team by reaching the state semifinals.

Now, some fans may be lamenting “What if?”

Like “what if Camas had not thrown two interceptions deep in O’Dea territory in the first half” or “what if league offensive player of the year Zack Marshall had not been injured in the first quarter.”

But instead of looking back, Camas fans may want to look forward.

Next year, Camas will be competing against the Skyviews and Unions of the world after an expected move up to Class 4A. But the Papermakers appear to have enough talent back to make another strong showing in 2012.

The Kansas State football team is 9-2 and has no chance of winning the Big 12 or heading to a BCS bowl.

But the Wildcats, or at least their fans, are laying claim to a championship.

Kansas State’s official team store is selling T-shirts touting the Wildcats as “2011 Texas State Champ.”

An explanation comes on the back, listing scores of K-State’s wins of 36-35 over Baylor, 41-34 over Texas Tech, 53-50 over Texas A&M and 17-13 over Texas.

So perhaps a good bowl matchup for the Wildcats could be 9-2 Texas Christian or 12-0 Houston.
