Ultimate Eagle wins Hollywood Derby for Pender

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — A day after winning the Citation Handicap with the favorite Jeranimo, trainer Mike Pender and owner B.J. Wright completed a weekend stakes double Sunday with long-shot Ultimate Eagle in the $250,000 Hollywood Derby.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza, Ultimate Eagle led all the way and won by three-quarters of a length, covering 1 1/4 miles on the turf in 2:01.43. It was the fourth straight victory and first Grade 1 win for Ultimate Eagle.

The winner paid $31.40, $13 and $7.60. Another long shot, Imagining, running in his first graded stakes, was second from gate to wire and paid $14.60 and $10.80. Western Aristocrat paid $8.20.
