SYDNEY (AP) — Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut says he won’t play in Australia’s National Basketball League during the NBA lockout because an insurance policy to cover his hefty contract couldn’t be secured.
Bogut’s management tweeted Friday that they had been “unable to rectify the outstanding issues” of Bogut’s insurance with the International Basketball Federation. He has a five-year contract with the Bucks that earns him an average of $14.5 million a season.
The injury-prone Bogut was hoping to play with the Sydney Kings, who open their season Friday against the Melbourne Tigers. The Tigers has another Australian NBA player left idle by the NBA lockout, Patty Mills of the Portland Trail Blazers.
