FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Five weeks into their season with newcomers playing key roles, the New England Patriots seem to be coming together as a strong unit.

The running attack has had two solid games. The defense had its best day of the year on Sunday. And, as usual, Tom Brady and Wes Welker were outstanding.

The Patriots are gelling. Or so it seems.

Safety James Ihedigbo said Monday there’s still a lot of football to be played and the team’s goal is to improve each week.

The Patriots had problems on special teams in Sunday’s 30-21 win over the New York Jets, allowing an 88-yard kickoff return by Joe McKnight. Still, it was their most complete performance of the season and improved their record to 4-1. They’re home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
