MIAMI (AP) — Russell Maryland, one of two Miami players to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, has been honored by the Hurricanes for his looming induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Maryland was the 1990 Outland Trophy winner for the Hurricanes and helped the team win two national championships. He also played for three Super Bowl champions with the Dallas Cowboys.

Maryland says he was moved by the series of ceremonies the Hurricanes were having Saturday, noting it was “an awesome thing to me, very special.”

He lives in the Dallas area now with his wife and three children, mainly doing charitable work and motivational speaking.
