Arndt wins women’s cycling time trial at worlds

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Judith Arndt of Germany has won the time trial at the road cycling world championship ahead of Linda Villumsen of New Zealand and defending champion Emma Pooley of Britain.

Arndt completed the rainy 17.2-mile circuit through central Copenhagen on Tuesday in 37 minutes, 7 seconds, beating Villumsen by 21 seconds.

Amber Neben of the United States finished eighth. Neben bumped Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong from the U.S. time trial team after lodging a protest with USA Cycling.

In the junior men’s time trial, Mads Wurtz Schmidt won a gold medal for Denmark by finishing in 35:07.68 to beat James Oram of New Zealand. David Edwards of Australia was third.
