US rider Fields wins BMX time trial world title

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Connor Fields of the United States won his second straight BMX time trial world championship on Saturday, while Olympic champion Mariana Pajon of Colombia captured the women’s title.

Fields, of Henderson, Nev., finished his lap at the Vector Arena in Auckland in 22.598 seconds, holding off 2011 elite champion Joris Daudet of France by 0.103 seconds. Fellow Frenchman Sylvain Andre took the bronze just ahead of American rider Corben Sharrah.

Sharrah, of Tucson, Ariz., missed the podium by less than five-hundredths of a second.

Pajon built on her London Games success by speeding around the course in 25.153 seconds to win her second world title. U.S. champion Alise Post of St. Cloud, Minn., won the silver medal while Australian Caroline Buchanan took bronze.
