Sean Keller of Heritage High School has now thrown the javelin farther than any other high school athlete in the state’s history.

Keller won the javelin at the Centennial Invitational in Gresham, Ore., on Saturday with a state-record throw of 244 feet, 1 inch.

Keller held the Washington prep state record for the new javelin at 232-1, set last season. He fell just short of the national record of 244-2 set in 2010 by Sam Crouser of Gresham (Ore.) High School.

The javelin was redesigned in 1986 with the newer javelins not traveling as far. Keller’s throw also bested the old javelin state mark of 239-1 by Tom Sinclair of Gig Harbor’s Peninsula High School.

Also posting wins Saturday at the Centennial boys meet were Heritage’s E’Lon Mack (100 meters, 11.05), Union’s Tanner Sork (400, 48.92), Union’s Joe Thompson (pole vault, 15-0). Camas’ Alexa Efraimson won the girls 800 in 2:08.92.
