A noninjury accident Saturday afternoon snarled traffic in east Vancouver and prompted a reminder for motorists to heed barricades placed to protect rescue crews.

Vancouver Fire Department firefighter-paramedic Kevin Stromberg said the crash occurred about 2:37 p.m., blocking the intersection of Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and 164th Avenue.

The occupants of both vehicles declined medical treatment at the scene, but firefighters reported that several vehicles struck traffic cones that had been placed to block the intersection.

"When you see a motor vehicle accident with emergency personnel, just be extra cautious of where you're driving," Stromberg said. "We're thinking of our safety, as well. Those cones are there for a reason."
