Senate recount expected to end Wednesday

The outcome of the tight 17th District Senate race between Republican Don Benton and Democrat Tim Probst should be revealed Wednesday afternoon, Clark County Elections Supervisor Tim Likness estimated earlier this week.

Official election results showed Benton with a 78-vote lead over Probst, triggering a hand recount under state law. That recount began Monday.

A hand recount for the 17th District House race between Democrat Monica Stonier and Republican Julie Olson will likely begin Thursday and conclude Monday, Likness said. Official election results showed Stonier with a 139-vote lead over Olson.

Results from both recounts won’t be certified by election officials until sometime next week, but certification is not expected to change the outcome of the recounts, Likness said.
