Belmont pulls away from Middle Tennessee 64-49

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kerron Johnson scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half to help Belmont pull away for a 64-49 victory over Middle Tennessee in a nonconference game Thursday night.

Ian Clark added 15 points for the Bruins (7-2), including a jumper and 3-point basket at the start of the second half that began a 16-3 run over the first 6:24 for a 46-29 lead.

A 3-pointer by Clark put Belmont ahead to stay, 25-24, with 4:11 left in the first half.

Belmont shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) in the second half to 22.6 percent (7 of 31) for the Blue Raiders (7-3).

Belmont’s Blake Jenkins blocked five Middle Tennessee shots and also scored 11 points.

JT Sulton scored eight of his team-high nine points in the first half for Middle Tennessee, which was coming off a 65-62 win over Mississippi last Saturday.
