Garland breaks out as La Salle tops Iona 88-74

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyrone Garland, making his second appearance for La Salle, scored a career-high 26 points off the bench as the Explorers topped Iona 88-74 Thursday night.

Garland, a transfer from Virginia Tech who was ineligible until last week, hit 10 of 22 from the field in 23 minutes. The junior scored nine points in his debut against Bucknell on Dec. 15.

Ramon Galloway had 21 points and tied a career high with 10 assists. The senior hit 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and is averaging 22 points per game over his past three contests with a 52.6 percent (10 of 19) clip from 3-point range.

Jerrell Wright and Tyreek Duren added 13 points and Steve Zack had 10 rebounds for La Salle (7-2).

Iona (5-5) was led by David Laury’s 21 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. Laury, a transfer from Lamar State, was making his Gaels’ debut.
