MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Frenchman Nicolas Mahut beat sixth-seeded Florian Mayer 7-6 (3), 6-3 Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Open Sud de France.
Mahut took a 4-1 lead in the tiebreaker and won the first set when Mayer double-faulted. He then broke the German twice in the final set to clinch victory.
He will next play the winner between top-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic and French qualifier Florent Serra.
