Northeastern defeats Towson 70-51

BOSTON (AP) — Joel Smith scored 20 points and Northeastern took advantage of Towson miscues in a 70-51 Colonial Athletic Association win on Tuesday night.

The Huskies (12-4, 8-8) scored 29 points off 19 turnovers, giving the Tigers their fifth straight loss.

Towson, which trailed by as many as 17 in the first half, cut it to eight, 39-31, with 16:20 to play. Northeastern answered with 12 straight, going 6 of 6 from the free-throw line and 2 of 2 from 3-piont range.

Smith’s 3-pointer put the Huskies up 58-38 with 10:05 remaining.

The Huskies, who beat Towson 57-48 on Jan. 2, scored 15 points off 10 turnovers in the second half, snapping a four-game skid.

Reggie Spencer scored 17 points, Quincy Ford 12 and Jonathan Lee 10 for Northeastern.

The Tigers (1-27, 1-15) were led by Robert Nwankwo with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Marcus Damas with 15 points.
