South Alabama defeats Western Kentucky 66-61

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Mychal Ammons scored 17 points and South Alabama closed with an 18-5 run to defeat Western Kentucky 66-61 Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference game.

The Jaguars (15-10, 7-7) won their third straight game and fifth in the last six.

South Alabama trailed 56-48 with 5:41 to play before making its closing run. The Jaguars scored 14 of the game’s next 16 points and got crucial free throws from Trey Anderson and Javier Carter in the last 30 seconds to clinch the win.

Carter, who scored 10 points and took 10 rebounds, was one of two Jaguars to post a double-double. Augustine Rubit recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 boards. Carter also blocked eight shots, a personal best, and the second-most in a game in school history.

Derrick Gordon led Western Kentucky (9-18, 5-9) with 16 points and Jamal Crook added 14.
