PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities are trying to figure out where to search next for a Lake Oswego father and two children who didn’t return home from a drive to find enough snow for snowshoeing.

The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says an extensive search Monday night of the area around a campground near Estacada turned up no sign of the three, and the family couldn’t provide definite information about where they might be.

Sheriff’s Sgt. James Rhodes says Lake Oswego police hope to get a cell phone ping Tuesday to point them toward 33-year-old Stewart Schmidt, a 15-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter.

Schmidt’s wife called police about 9 p.m. Monday to report them four hours overdue.

Rhodes said they were reported in a maroon or burgundy Hyundai SUV, license YPA799.
