Davis leads James Madison past Hampton 74-67

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — A.J. Davis scored 21 points to lead James Madison to a 74-67 nonconference victory over Hampton on Monday night, ending a three-game losing streak for the Dukes.

The Pirates (6-10), who had won their past two games, led 54-53 after Mike Tuitt’s jumper with 10 minutes remaining before James Madison used a 16-3 run to go ahead 69-57 with 5:01 left.

Andrey Semenov, who scored 17 points for the Dukes, scored eight points during the run, including a pair of 3-pointers.

James Madison (8-7) closed the first half with a 20-4 burst to lead 44-35 at halftime before the Pirates climbed back into the game.

Humpty Hitchens added 15 points for the Dukes, and Davis made five steals.

Tuitt finished with 15 points to lead Hampton in scoring and also had five assists, while David Bruce had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Darrion Pellum scored 12 points.
