Ongoing construction at the intersection of state Highway 500 and St. Johns Boulevard in Vancouver will close St. Johns overnight Friday.

Closure of the north-south arterial will extend from Cherry Road to East 33rd Street between 8 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Near Cherry Road, St. Johns splits with St. James Road, which will also be closed during that time.

The closure will eliminate all turns from Highway 500 to St. Johns, according to WSDOT.

Workers plan to re-stripe the road during the closure, install concrete barriers and shift traffic to the west onto a temporary detour roadway.

The work will eventually transform the intersection into a freeway-style interchange, with St. Johns going up and over the highway on a new bridge. The $48 million project is expected to be finished in 2013.
