SEATTLE (AP) — Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna says his office is partnering with Facebook to combat a clicking spam plaguing the social network site.

McKenna made the announcement at Facebook’s Seattle offices on Thursday, saying the company and his office have filed two federal lawsuits against Adscend Media.

In this spam, links on Facebook promising shocking or salacious videos have embedded in them code that spreads the link to the user’s page, making it seem like the user “liked” the link, with the aim of attracting more clicks.

An email inquiry was not immediately returned by Adscend.

The social-networking company has 800 million-plus users.
